Bubblin' Crude a Shot Away

October 27, 2013
Terry Vaughan

It remains one of my all time favorite sit-coms and the theme song is  one you no doubt will recall with nostalgic glee.

Come on..sing along! I know you know the words made famous by Flatt and Scruggs.

"Come and listen to  a story about a man named Jed. A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed. Then one day he was shootin' at some food, and up through the ground came a bubblin' crude. Oil that is, black gold. Texas tea."

Following their 27-14 district Homecoming victory against Umatilla, the Bradford High Tornadoes will load up the truck and head to Keystone Friday night..... Heights, that is. Swimming pools. Movie stars....and a chance to grab some valuable hardware.

This game is bigger than Jethro's cereal bowl or Uncle Jed's bank account.

It is all there for the taking. Winner gets a date with Ellie Mae. The loser will feel like it got stuck with Miss Hathaway.

The victor clinches an elusive District crown and the opportunity to host a first-round playoff game. The loser will travel north to face, in all likelihood, a ranked and talented Raines squad.

This rivarly has always been big. Rarely has it been this monumental.

Hopefully the Tornadoes will rise to the challenge against a talented and well-coached Indian squad and let it all hang out. Unless you are willing to take some shots, you will never strike bubblin' crude.

So, Until my next blog, I would like to thank you folks for kindly droppin' in. You're all invited back again next week to this locality, to have a heapin' helpin of my hospitality.

Maybe we can raise a glass of Grannie's secret recipe (for medicinal purposes, of course) in celebration of a District Championship.

Ya'll come back now..ya' hear!
