Hey Tornado Fans what a game last night at David Hurse Stadium as the Tornadoes beat the defending district champs Santa Fe Raiders 24 to 6 in a big and I mean big key district matchup. You may ask what was so big about this win…well it means that Bradford is in first place and controls it's own destiny to win the title outright and host a state playoff game at home for the first time in many years. With Keystone and Interlachen left on the schedule for district games the Tornadoes need to keep focused and work hard each and every week and play like they did tonight and they will be tough to beat down the homestretch of this season. Next up for the Tornadoes is the Fernandina Beach Pirates as we celebrate Homecoming Week 2016 and all the pageantry that comes with it. There will be all kinds of events and things going on with building of floats, practicing on skits, Tornado Whirl and the Parade and the football team just need to keep focused. I know it is cliché but practice hard this week and not look ahead to what can be. The Pirates are a very good team and are more than capable to come in here and spoil our Homecoming by handing us a loss. Just to recap the game a bit the offense was very efficient and was able to sustain drives and play keep away from the Raiders as the running game was on target grinding out yards and hitting them with big runs with Carter, James, and Barber. While the Big Offensive Line, Sadler, Cavin, Villafuerte, Woods,  Alvarez and Henderson created big holes and running lanes all night for the backs to run through and outstanding job to these young men for their efforts. The Receivers Martin and Jenkins especially had some great blocks down field on the Raiders defensive backs helping Barber in those long runs. Also Taro Ward the FB had some great blocks leading the way for the RB's. Defense was outstanding and one of the best overall performances that I believe they had all year against a very good opponent limiting the Raiders to one touchdown and only a couple of big plays but our defense for the most part shut them down and overpowered their bigger offensive line. Kudos go out to these young men Griffis, Sadler, Mosley, and Smith on the DL in on tackles at the line of scrimmage or in the backfield sacking the QB or stuffing the run. The Linebackers did a great job as well staying at home and not getting fooled on all the misdirection plays they ran on us, these players included Hake, Ward, and Jamarian “Juice” McNeal, who by the way, with the game still in doubt had a masterpiece of a one-handed interception to help ice the game away at that point. The Defensive Backs were very impressive having blanket coverage on their receivers and giving up one long deep pass play and the main thing they did was help in run support as McBride, Cummings, Jenkins, and Vaughan using their speed bottled them up. Jeremiah “Bug” “3M” Vaughan helped put Bradford in good field position all night and Barber hit 3 of 3 PATs and made a nice 29 yard FG to put the first points on the board. Coach Green and Coach Johns and the rest of the Coaching Staff put together a great game plan and had our young men ready to play. Next Friday Night is Homecoming as the Tornadoes play host to the Fernandina Beach Pirates. A little trivia for Tornado Nation Fans…Did you know that we played the Pirates 50 years ago for Homecoming during our 1966 Championship Season?  Come out and cheer on your Tornadoes to another win but if you can’t make it you can always tune in and listen to Live Play By Play and Color Commentary with Mr. Friday Night David Rodgers and Big Kevin Howe and along with the Producers Chuck Kramer and Lyn Veliz Pregame Show @ 715 and Kickoff @ 730 right here on Eagle Country 106.3.
