ROYALS BOW DOWN TO THE TORNADOES

October 1, 2017
David A. Rodgers

Good Evening Tornado Nation and Tornado Fans everywhere, this is Mr. Friday Night David Rodgers, Voice of the Bradford Tornadoes with this week’s WEAG Eagle Country 106.3Radio Blog for 9-22-17.

The Tornadoes were back in action after 2 weeks of not playing due to Hurricane Irma and the aftermath she left not only throughout the State but in Bradford County so Friday Night Lights were back as Bradford coming into this game with a 2-1 record and a 2 game winning streak on the line and now here comes a very good Fort White Indians Football Team with a 3-1 record losing last week as they did play to the only team that the Tornadoes lost to the Taylor County Bulldogs so something will have to give in this game, and it will go along way for the new FHSAA Playoff Points System. The Winner will have a leg up in the region.

This game was played at David Hurse Stadium in the Pearl of the South, Starke Florida and the crowd came out in full support and it was loud all night and what an exciting game and at the end of the night our beloved Tornadoes scalped their third sets of Indians 21-14 in come back fashion.

The game started off looking like it was going to be a long night for the Tornadoes, as the Indians took the opening kickoff and drove the length of the field and 80 yard drive that chewed up most of the clock in the first quarter, 7 minutes to be exact and just like that it was 7-0, but the Tornadoes on the ensuing drive drove the ball down to the Indian 18 yard line and the drive was stymied by the Indian Defense and we had to settle for a Zion Barber 33 yard FG and just like that the Tornadoes were on the scoreboard 7-3. In the second quarter the Indians were at it again and drove the ball down the Tornado Defense and again used a lot of clock and then got the ball down to the Bradford 11 yard line and they hit a pass in the back of the end zone for 11 yards and with the PAT the Tornadoes were down 14-3 and looking bleak as the Tornadoes had not many offensive opportunities to move the ball. But the never give up Tornadoes took the kickoff after that TD and moved the ball again with ease to the Indian red zone and down to the 18 yard line again and could not score so they again settled for another Zion Barber 33 yard FG and now the score was 14-6 at the half.

Coach Tomlinson and his Coaching Staff made the halftime adjustments as needed and the Tornadoes bought in and they were different team after half time and held the Indians scoreless in the second half and the Tornadoes scored 15 point in the second half and with a stifling defense put this game away and came out with the 21-14 victory.

The Tornado Offense had another great rushing game that amassed 206 yards rushing on 36 attempts for an avg. of 5.7 yards per carry and 1 TD and a 7-11 for 35 yards and 1 TD passing night for SR QB Zion Barber. He also connected on a 2- point conversion with the Tornadoes trailing 14-12, Barber rolled to his right and threw back across his body and hit JR RB Jeremiah Vaughan on a diving catch in the middle of the end zone as he beat the defender just enough to make that play. The Tornado offense was outgained 241 to 349 total yards but the Bradford Defense was fearless in the second half bend but don’t break and that is exactly what they did. The Rushing Attack was led by JR RB Jeremiah Vaughan with 15 carries for 115 yards for a 7.7 yards per carry and scored that all important 2 -point conversion. With his efforts in this game he was named the Beef O Brady’s Player of the Game. Barber had 13 carries for 63 yards for an avg. of 4.8 yards per carry. SR RB Tally Chandler had 7 carries for 25 yards for a 3.6 yard per carry and scored 1 TD on an 8-yard run. SR Slotback Taro Ward had 5 Carries for 48 yards for a 9.6 yards per carry. SR WR Chris Cummings had 6 catches for 33 yards and a 8 yard TD Reception.

The Defense played lights out in the second half holding the Indians scoreless after giving up 14 points in the first half. The Indians did out gain the Tornadoes 303 yards to 241 yards but the scoreboard is what counts and that is where the Bradford Team won this game, playing with heart and passion and never giving up. The Defense had 4 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. SR LB Gavin Dukes led the Tornadoes in tackles with 13 total tackles 9 assist and 4 solos and 1 sack and 2 fumble recoveries. SR DB Taro Ward had 12 tackles, 5 assisted and 7 solos. Sophomore DB Nathaniel Davis also had 12 tackles 8 assisted and 4 solos. SR LB Dallin Woods and SR DB Chris Cummings had 9 tackles. Also in on tackles and some great defensive efforts were, SR DL Gerald Smith III (2 sacks), SR LB Caleb Patray (1 sack), JR NG Jacquez Mosley, and SR DE D.J. Mackey. Barber also made 1 of 1 of his PAT’S to finish out all the scoring for the Tornadoes.

The Tornadoes were outstanding on defense especially in the second half of the ball game. They did enough on offense to sustain drives and eat up enough clock to keep the Indians Offense on the Sidelines. Now the Tornadoes will make the longest road trip of the season as they travel to Kissimmee, Florida to take on the 0-3 Kingdom Prep Royals a private school from Auburndale, Florida that plays their games 45 minutes away from their school.

So we encourage all of our Tornado Nation and Fans to make this road trip and cheer on the Team but if you can’t please tune in to all the Live Play By Play Action with David Rodgers and Big Kevin Howe this Friday Night September 29th with the Pregame Show @645 and Kickoff @7P.M. on WEAG Eagle Country 106.3.
