Tornadoes Dismantle the West Nassau Warriors

Well Tornado Fans and Tornado Nation, This is David Rodgers with a recap of the West Nassau and Bradford Tornado Game on Friday Oct 6, 2017.

The West Nassau Warriors came into David Hurse Stadium in Starke Florida on Friday Night sporting a 5-0 record and feeling confident as they had beat 3 opponents on their schedule by an average of 33-0, their defense had not let anyone score on them in those 3 games and with a tough game and close win against the Baldwin Indians last Friday Night 29-27, the Tornadoes showed moxie and resilience as they scored first after a 3 out by the Warriors on the opening kickoff of the game and never really looked back as they put a North East Florida Tail whipping on the Warriors 48-21 to improve to 5-1, with a 5 game win streak and with a bye upcoming this week, then the Tornadoes will be back on the road as we travel to Crescent City on Friday October 20th to see if we can make it 6 wins in a row.

The Bye Week could not have come at a better time as the Tornadoes have a few players that are banged up and have some minor injuries that they need to rest and heal and with 2 weeks to do so should be back in the starting lineups. SR LB Caleb Patray got hurt in last night’s game and it looks like a leg injury and at game time and up until this report did not have an actual status of what this injury may consist of but to us from the press box it looks like an ankle or leg injury. Again we do not want to speculate and will report this as we get further information. Pedro Carter who broke his ankle in the Keystone Heights Game has told some close insiders that he maybe able to go and could be possible against Crescent City. We will wait on an official report.

JR RB Jerimiah Vaughan scored the first 3 Touchdowns for the Tornadoes and led a scoring barrage as SR RB Tally Chandler added a 41 yard TD Run, and SR WR /DB Chris Cummings  scored 3 Touchdowns 1 on a 4 yard TD Reception from SR QB Zion Barber and on another 47 yard tip drill pass as the Warrior Safety Tip the pass up and almost had a one handed interception but the ball tipped back and landed right into Cummings hands in stride and it was off to the races as he outran everyone to end zone for the score and also has an interception return for a TD and could have had a 4th score on a 61 yard punt return that he took to the house but it was called back for a block in the back.

The Defense played lights out after giving up 125 yards rushing and 2 TD’s, one of those on a 4th and Goal from the Tornado 8 yard line and Wright hit Johnson on a nice fade route to cut the lead to 8 right before the half, Coach Tomlinson and The Coaching Staff went into the locker room and made the necessary adjustments and in the second half the Tornadoes spun around the Warriors and outscored them 28-7 and the game was really not in jeopardy from that point on. The DL put on a clinic as they kept stuffing the RB’s for the most part and when QB Wright went back to pass he was hurried, sacked and hit for most of the 3rd and 4th quarter. Wright for the Warriors only had 45 yards passing and the one lone TD to Johnson.

I want to give Kudos to several players that we thought played outstanding, JR NG Jacquez Mosley by the way the Beef o’ Brady’s Player of the Game, with 11 tackles 7 solo and 6 assisted and 2 TFL and 1 sack. Gerald Smith, Donovan Etienne, Taro Ward, Chris Cummings, Jeremiah Vaughan, Dakota Matthews. and along with the rest of the Tornado Defense. Great Job by the O-Line as well, creating big holes all night for the run game and holding up on pass blocking to give Barber time to throw passes. Nice Job!!

In closing, Big Kevin and I told Coach Tomlinson before the start of last night’s game that this team is buying into his concepts and beliefs on how a football program should be run and it shows with this 5-game winning streak. Great job to Coach Tomlinson and your Coaching Staff!!! So now a Bye Week for Friday October 13th and then we get ready to make another road trip to Crescent City on Friday October 20th, and I know it is not true but it seems we have lived on the road for most of this season but the Tornadoes seem to relish this and just keep doing what they are doing best and that is winning football games.
